What is an HDMI switch?

An HDMI switch is a device that allows you to connect multiple HDMI sources to one HDMI input on, for example, a TV or beamer. Think of TV decoders, game consoles, Blu-ray players, laptops and other devices. The HDMI switch ensures that you can easily switch between the various connected HDMI sources without having to keep changing the HDMI cables. This has the advantage that you need fewer cables and create a neat and orderly arrangement.

Types of HDMI switch

There are different types of HDMI switches with various functionalities. Below are some examples:

• Automatic HDMI switch automatically detects the active HDMI device and switches to it. Handy if you don't always want to switch manually. All our HDMI switches switch automatically.
• HDMI switch with remote control provides extra convenience, since you can easily switch between the connected sources without getting up. All our HDMI switches switch automatically, a remote control is only necessary if the connected HDMI source does not allow automatic switching.
• HDMI matrix switches offer both multiple inputs and outputs, allowing you to connect and manage multiple devices on different screens.

What should you pay attention to when you buy an HDMI switch?

When choosing an HDMI switch, there are a number of factors that you should take into account:

• Number of inputs: How many devices do you want to connect?
• HDMI version: Choose a switch with the HDMI version that matches your devices and cables.
• Resolution: See if the HDMI switch supports the desired resolution, such as 8K, 4K or 1080p.
• Audiovisual standards: Find a switch that can handle the audio and video standards you need, such as 3D, HDR, and Dolby Atmos.  

4K HDMI switch

Do you have a 4K television? If so, you should use an HDMI switch that supports 4K signals. Otherwise, the resolution will remain limited to the maximum resolution of the HDMI switch.  

Our UHD 2.0 series is suitable for the latest Ultra HD 4K60 resolution (3840 x 2160/60Hz), High Dynamic Range (HDR), Deep Color and 4:4:4 chroma colours.

8K HDMI switch

Despite the fact that not much content is offered in 8K yet, with the Connect 720 & Connect 740 we offer you the option of connecting various 8K HDMI sources to one 8K TV. These compact switches also supports 4K120 and is therefore ideal for connecting a Play Station 5 or XBox Series X to 1 television at the same time.

• Connect 720 (2 in / 1 out) => 4K120 & 8K60
• Connect 740 (4 in / 1 out) => 4K120 & 8K60

Matrix HDMI switch 

The Connect 642 Pro is an HDMI switch and HDMI splitter in one. This matrix HDMI allows you to connect 4 HDMI devices to 2 TVs. You can easily switch between both the connected HDMI devices and the TVs.    
Choose whether to display the content of the same device on both screens or if you both want to watch something different independently.  

A matrix switch is therefore ideal for use if, for example, you want to play games on a large screen one time and just watch TV the next. You do not have to keep changing cables and/or reconnecting equipment.   

With the remote control, you can easily switch between the HDMI devices you want to display and choose the screen to use.  

Connect 642 Pro

Audio output & ARC

In addition to an HDMI output, the Connect 621 UHD 2.0 also has a digital audio output. This allows you to connect all connected HDMI sources to your AV receiver with just one cable. You determine the desired audio format (2.0 / 5.1 / 7.1) yourself.  

The audio quality of your flat screen TV often leaves much to be desired. Connecting a soundbar or an AV receiver is the perfect solution for better sound. You don’t want there to be a delay between the TV’s picture and the sound that accompanies it. Does your TV have an HDMI ARC connection? Then you can solve this problem easily.

ARC enables you to only have the sound from your TV to be sent back to the HDMI switch via the HDMI cable. Because the Connect 621 UHD 2.0 also supports ARC, you can connect your AV receiver or soundbar to the digital audio output on this HDMI switch with confidence. The TV’s picture will be exactly in sync with the sound. 

Do you watch Netflix, YouTube or interactive TV on your Smart TV?  With ARC, you can also reproduce this sound on your AV receiver or soundbar.

Operation out of sight 

Most HDMI switches in our range are equipped with an infrared receiver. This allows you to operate the switch when it is placed out of sight.  

Automatic HDMI switch

Our switches switch automatically. You do not need a TV remote or an HDMI switch to switch to the desired HDMI source. This happens automatically. We do supply HDMI switches with remote control. However, these are only used when a connected HDMI source does not allow automatic switching.  The HDMI switches can also be switched manually if required.

No signal loss 

All our HDMI switches have a built-in repeater and equaliser that prevent signal loss.  

Moreover, the Connect 621 UHD 2.0 & Connect 642 Pro are interference-free due to the solid metal interference-free quality housing.

How do you connect an HDMI switch?

An HDMI switch is a small box with 2 or more HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output. Plug the HDMI cables from your HDMI equipment into the HDMI input and connect the HDMI cable from your TV to the HDMI output of the switch. This way, you can easily connect multiple HDMI sources to 1 TV and alternate the image.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

HDMI 2.0

Compared to HDMI 1.4, the main improvement of HDMI 2.0 is its higher bandwidth (higher data rate), enabling 4K with higher frame rates and HDR.

The amount of data that can be sent is increased from 10.2 Gbps to 18 Gbps. This makes it possible to display 4K using a frame rate of 50-60 frames per second, 4:4:4 and HDR. HDMI 2.0 also offers support for a larger colour range (12-bit instead of 8-bit) and Dual View.

HDCP 2.2

4K Ultra HD content is increasingly becoming the standard. Due to this development in digital video technology, the current copy protection, HDCP, has evolved into HDCP 2.2. To play the latest Ultra HD content (4K films or broadcasts) in the best possible image quality, all your AV equipment in the same chain must support this HDCP 2.2 security.

So, this does not only apply to the source and your TV. If, for example, you route your HDMI signal via an HDMI switch, splitter, AV receiver or soundbar, they must all be HDCP 2.2 compliant. If that is not the case, the material will not be displayed in the highest possible resolution (1080p instead of 4K) + the corresponding image quality OR will sometimes not be displayed at all.

HDR

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. HDR provides images with greatly enhanced brightness and higher contrast (brighter white and deeper black). Combined with better colour rendering, this creates a more realistic and natural image. In order to enjoy HDR, your TV does need to support the HDR feature. Material displayed in HDR quality (such as 4K Blu-ray, Netflix and YouTube) can then easily be played on your TV. HDR does not add more pixels, like 4K Ultra HD does, but enhances the pixels that are there.
